1. 2 small talks

A: I'm sleepy.
B: So am I.
A: I had a long day.
B: So did I.
A: I didn't even have lunch.
B: Neither did I.
A: I was busy the whole day.
B: So was I.
A: I had to bring work home with me.
B: I did too.
A: Your day was just like mine.
B: Of course it was. We work together!

B: Me too. I couldn't wait to graduate.
A: But now work is hard, too.
B: I agree. Work is just as hard as school.
A: Sometimes I wish I was back in school.
B: Me too. School was fun.
A: And it was only 12 years.
B: It went by pretty fast.
A: But work goes on forever!
B: We have to work for 30 years!

2. "Coast"

Small Talk
A: Were you invited to Mary's party this weekend?
B: Yes I was. Why do you ask?
A: I was wondering if you could give me a ride.
B: Where do you live?
A: I live one block away from the school.
B: Okay, that's not too far.
A: By what time should I be ready?
B: Well, when does the party start?
A: The invitation says at 5 p.m.
B: I'll pick you up at 4:15. Parties always start a little late.
A: Thank you. I'll buy you a coffee to make up for it.
B: That sounds great! Let's go.

• keep an appointment (=go to an appointment you have arranged)

Please give us plenty of notice if you have to cancel an appointment.

2.Phân biệt :  call, phone, telephone, ring

In spoken English, it is usual to say that you call or phone someone
• He calls me almost every day.
• Phone me when you get there.
In spoken British English, it is also very usual to say that you ring someone
• Have you rung Kim yet?
It is fairly formal and not very usual in spoken English to say that you telephone someone.
!! Do not say that you 'call to' someone
• I called him (NOT called to him) to let him know.
!! There is no verb 'phone call‘
• I need to call (NOT to phone call) Monica.
You can also say that you give someone a (phone) call or, in British English, give them a ring
• Give me a call sometime.
• I think I'll give Mum a ring.
!! Do not say 'give someone a phone'.

A. How do you manage to make it late every day?
B. I don't mean to be so late.

B. I didn't get enough sleep.
A. If you sleep earlier, you'll rise earlier.
B. I can't sleep that early.
A. Why? Are you a night owl?
B. No, I'm just very busy with housework.
A. Well, set your alarm and wake up on time.
B. I won't be late again, I promise.

2.
A: I'm thinking of moving to Texas.
B: Why? You love California.
A: I do, but there's a great teaching job in Texas.
B: How much would you get?
A: I would get $70,000 a year.
B: How much do you make now?
A: I earn $60,000 a year.
B: I still don't think you should move.
A: Really? Why not?
B: All your friends and family are here.
A: Are there any other reasons?
B: I think you'll earn $70,000 if you're patient.

B: What are your usual hours?
A: I usually work 8 hours a day for five days.

A: I'm working another 8 hours on Saturday.
B: But Mom was planning a party on Saturday.
A: I can't make it.
B: Can't you tell your boss?
A: That's not how the real world works.
B: I wish the world was perfect.
